For most people, simply having breakdown cover would get them out of trouble far quicker and with a lot less stress, however, for people like myself who like to plan for all eventualities, this guide is for you. Also, consider this list of ‘Must Have Accessories for your Tesla Model S‘ and Must Have Accessories for Model Y and 3 for a most concise list of accessories to take with you.
Lighting:
- A Road Flare/s – An ideal safety device, especially in dark countryside or for added visibility on a fast road
- LED Head Torch – Give yourself two hands to work with
Tyre Repair:
- Buy a decent tyre pump, one that ideally matches your household tools is a good idea e.g. Makita | Bosch | Ryobi | Dewalt – These allow you to quickly pump up all your tyres whilst also not require a 12V cable.
- Dynaplug Extreme (or the Pro) – These are superb compact but powerful kits, the best you can get, however, they will require you to get dirty/luck if you do get a puncture or require you to remove the wheel to find and fix. Alternatively, buy this or consider a Slime Tyre Repair Set– These really are a last resort but a good final option (e.g. the AA say it’s a 4 hour wait and you’re desperate).
- HEYNER German Heavy Duty Scissor Jack with a lifting pad (Model 3/Y) or you can consider an electric one
Utility:
- Tesla’s standard included emergency kit (small first aid kit, warning triangle, tow bar etc)
- Gerber Suspension Butterfly Knife / Multitool – A does everything tool
- 90 Piece Premium First Aid Kit Bag – A decent first aid kit
- Emergency Escape Hammer– Kept inside the car
- Heavy duty tow belt – The towing hook in the Tesla is inside the Red emergency bag supplied in the frunk.
- 3-4 Microfibre cloths – Ideal for cleaning windows/mirrors whilst charging or cleaning hands etc when broken down
- Some decent window cleaner
- Non-Slip Gloves
- Some bottled water or reusable flask
- A few Hi-Vis Jackets – One for each family member
- Kidde KSPD2G Fire Extinguisher Multi Purpose 2.0kg ABC – Overkill for a Tesla but useful in case you need to help someone else on the road.
- 5 x foil blankets – One for each person in car + spares for lying/sitting on etc
- 2 x Survival Sleeping Bivi Bag – Useful after an accident or for putting children in to keep warm
- Hand Warmer Value Pack – Super useful especially in winter
For Winter Only:
- A small spade or fold out version (rarely carried but useful to have in the garage to take out especially on a winter road trip)
- A spare coat / socks for the family
- Walking boots
